Representing individual, corporate and government clients, Don Handberry advises on a wide range of civil, commercial and insurance litigation, including insurance defense, eminent domain and personal injury cases.

Don draws on deep experience in defending clients who have been sued in accident cases involving serious injury or death, including but not limited to motor vehicle and boating accidents, deck collapses, premise liability accidents, dog bites and accidents involving heavy equipment. In his local government work, Don handles eminent domain issues for an array of entities, including the Georgia Department of Transportation.

Although Don primarily serves as defense counsel, he occasionally advocates for plaintiffs. His knowledge and familiarity with one side of the docket informs his work on the other side and gives him a wide-lens perspective on litigation. In all cases, Don works diligently to build compelling narratives and employs his strong storytelling skills to present the facts of the case persuasively. He avoids legalese, favoring straightforward, understandable language.

Don grew up in a family that owned insurance agencies. Before entering law school, he earned his MBA and worked in the corporate arena. This hands-on business experience gives him a practical, real-world perspective into the ways he can best help his clients.

With an emphasis on cultivating close personal connections, Don brings a great deal of compassion and empathy to his practice. He understands that many clients are going through highly stressful situations, such as being sued for the first time in their lives. He makes himself available to listen carefully to their concerns, assuage their fears, and support them in any way possible.

After Hours

Family and friends are very important to Don. Most of his time outside of work is spent in activities such as attending church and the athletic events of his three sons. He has also been involved in coaching youth football and baseball teams.
