Advocating for clients in general litigation, Spencer Woody handles claims filed in business and tort litigation, and in insurance defense disputes such as fire fraud and insurance coverage matters. In addition, Spencer defends local governments in disputes, including civil rights cases involving charges of police brutality, wrongful death, and 4th Amendment violations. He counsels cities and counties on a range of issues and helps them craft policies that mitigate their risk and exposure.

Spencer enjoys the challenge of finding solutions to complex problems. Constantly looking to save clients money, time and aggravation, he assesses situations from a big-picture perspective. This approach often results in practical strategies that avoid litigation and expensive courtroom battles while still driving his clients’ interests forward.

To help clients adhere to the ever-changing laws and regulations that govern them, Spencer offers compliance counsel with clear explanations of how rule changes affect clients’ operations and policies, both immediately and down the road. He looks ahead strategically to ensure that the actions taken by companies and local governments will hold up under the microscope of litigation if they ever receive a challenge.

Spencer stays on top of all details and deadlines and checks to ensure issues are being handled properly from day one. He always carefully follows proper procedures, both to avoid problems and to find ways to challenge opponents on missteps early in disputes and sometimes win cases outright on these procedural rules.

After Hours

Spencer and his wife enjoy spending time at home with their indoor pets as well as their “outdoor wildlife regulars,” as he says. A sports enthusiast, Spencer also participates in long-distance running competitions such as half-marathons and marathons.
