Robert focuses his practice on general litigation, drawing on years of jury trial experience in complex investigations and federal prosecutions to represent a broad scope of governmental and private.
Before joining James-Bates-Brannan-Groover LLP, he served as an Assistant United States Attorney (“AUSA”) for the Middle District of Georgia for more than two decades. He prosecuted a broad range of federal offenses, including complex white-collar crimes, fraud, drug trafficking organizations, and national security matters. During his tenure, he also served as Senior Litigation Counsel, Elder Justice Coordinator, and Task Force Coordinator for Human Trafficking and Bankruptcy Crimes. He also served in the Civil Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, defending the United States, its departments, and federal employees in a wide array of matters. Robert was also detailed to Washington, DC, as a trial attorney in the National Security Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, where he handled all aspects of cases involving the mishandling of classified information, export controls, and sanctions.
Before serving as an AUSA, Robert spent years in private practice in general civil litigation where he represented and advised state and local governments and a variety of corporate and individual clients in state and federal matters. Robert also served as a Judge Advocate in the Georgia Army and Air National Guard, including a combat deployment to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and retiring as the Staff Judge Advocate (Colonel) for the Georgia Air National Guard.
After Hours
Outside of the office, Robert enjoys spending time and traveling with his wife, adult children and grandson, sailing, and getting outdoors. He is very involved in his church as a deacon and Sunday School teacher.
