Matt Laws joined James Bates Brannan Groover LLP in the fall of 2023. His practice focuses on general litigation matters, including insurance defense.

Matt graduated from the University of Southern California with a B.S. in Music Industry, a business degree with an entertainment focus. After holding positions on both the creative and management sides of the music industry, Matt then obtained his J.D. from the Emory University School of Law.

Matt has extensive litigation experience in both state and federal courts, having practiced white collar criminal defense for over a decade with a boutique firm in San Francisco, California. Matt’s jury trial experience ranges from complex federal fraud trials taking several months to a short two-day trial in which the jury acquitted his client after only 15 minutes of deliberation. Matt also has appellate experience, briefing matters before the Ninth Circuit.

Matt resides in Macon, Georgia, with his wife and rescue dog. He enjoys music recording and production, and he volunteers with the Special Olympics sailing program, helping athletes navigate the waters of Lake Tobesofkee.
